OUR LITTLE DAUGHTER AMELKA IS FIGHTING LEUKAEMIA!
The little angel you can see in the photo is our 10-month-old daughter Amelka, a sweet little baby who was growing and developing completely normally until one day we noticed on her skin a bump that resembled a small bruise. We went to see her paediatrician right away, later that day, who told us that it could be an enlarged lymph node or a bruise. Amelka was 9 months old at the time and was a very lively baby.
Two days later, we noticed another bump, and in the days that followed, another, and another, and another… The doctors did some tests, and on 24 September 2020, we got a phone call urging us to immediately take Amelka to the hospital, as the tests were suggesting a blood cancer. Our world had suddenly fallen apart. We couldn’t believe that our little daughter might be suffering from leukaemia.
Unfortunately, when we got to the hospital, the diagnosis was confirmed: ALL (acute lymphoblastic leukaemia). The fight with this terrible disease started but our baby girl has been very brave and wakes up with a smile on her face every day. Initially, the results of the follow-up tests were promising, but our happiness did not last long. The genetic test revealed a very rare mutation in the gene that encodes a protein called IKAROS, which negatively impacts our baby’s prognosis.
Our little star is now 11 months old. She was born on the
magical day of Christmas Eve (which in Poland is the day on which you open Christmas presents), a true gift from God. That is why we are begging you, as parents to parents, please help us go through this terrible ordeal, so that our Amelka can spend her next Christmas, and her 2nd birthday, outside the hospital surrounded by her family.
Over the course of one day, we found ourselves in a severe situation, so we are asking everyone here to help us save our daughter’s LIFE.
