HELP FOR HONORATKA IN THE FIGHT WITH A VERY RARE AND DIFFICULT DISEASE
We are the parents of two-year-old Honorata – our only, longed-for child. We knew from the beginning that she suffers from lymphovascular malformation and facial soft tissue hyperplasia. But no matter how much you prepare yourself mentally for the fact that your child is sick, every day is accompanied by an overwhelming fear for her life and health.
Vascular malformation is a congenital malformation of the blood vessels that worsens with age, never regressing on its own. In Honorata’s case, it is the location that causes the biggest problem. Treatment of malformations on the tongue is extremely difficult, and improper therapy may even lead to serious health consequences or mutilation.
However, our daughter’s joy of life and determination to fight does not allow us to doubt even for a moment that she will be healthy. We did our best to follow the doctor’s recommendations, but as it turns out, future necessary treatments are not offered by any hospital in Poland. The Center for Vascular Defects at the University Hospital in Halle decided to provide medical care for Honorata. This is a well-renowned centre for treating this type of disease, known not only in Germany but also around the world. We were very hopeful about Prof. Walter Wohlgemuth’s decision to qualify our daughter for treatment, which could start as early as April 19 this year! Honorata would undergo sclerotherapy with possible reverse electroporation under general anesthesia. Reverse electroporation is a procedure designed to intensify the action of the drug inside the cell, so that the effects of the treatment are better and the dose of the drug administered for sclerotherapy is significantly reduced, as well as the number of treatments needed.
Having met parents of children who have undergone this treatment, we are now filled with great optimism. However, there is one major obstacle facing us – the cost, which is well beyond our financial means.Even one dose of treatment at the above-mentioned clinic is estimated to cost around PLN100,000 (and there is a high probability of future treatments needed).
Therefore, we are asking for your help. Our gratitude for every, even the smallest sign of support has no limits.
We thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
